Macnab Challenge

Experience the serenity of the South African Highlands, while hunting & fishing in the renowned Drakensberg Mountain Range, with an array of sought-after wild quarry to be found amidst

breathtaking landscapes.

Our story :

Here in South Africa, by honouring the age-old Scottish tradition, our own version of the Macnab has been reborn and dubbed the AFS Macnab Challenge. To successfully complete the AFS Macnab Challenge, a hunter has from dawn to dusk to harvest three of the most sought-after wild

quarries, indigenous to our Drakensberg Mountain Ranges. This challenge requires one to hunt either a Vaal Rhebok or a Mountain Reedbuck, shoot a brace of Greywing Francolin and finally catch a wild trout on a self-tied fly. Challenging indeed…

What one should consider before pursuing this difficult, but respected sporting tradition in the South African Highlands, is that it tests the skillset and endurance of the hunter to the maximum. Be ready for steep climbs at high altitudes of around 8,000 feet above sea-level, often having to take an antelope from a difficult position, ranging up to 400 yards out, bag some of the swiftest francolin and ultimately persuading the crafty hunters of our wild river streams to take your fly. Be warned. Be prepared. This is the ultimate sportsman’s challenge. and it is bound to be one of the

most epic experiences of your life!
